Braking to go uphill? Surely not! Chris Smith is riding up some steep slabs in the south of France to demonstrate what he means by using the brakes to help when climbing. This technique is a great idea to use on technical, steep climbs where you’re balancing your weight, power output and levels of grip at the same time… think of it a bit like the clutch on a motorbike!
