I test out a “Tailbrella”, a shade umbrella that mounts to a car or truck with a 2 inch receiver. The 9 foot umbrella clears hatches and tailgates. It’s great for tailgating, car shows, construction jobs, the beach, farmers markets, anywhere you spend time outdoors near your car.

I tried out the Tailbrella at a car show and was pretty happy to be the only place with shade!
I purchased this on clearance, but if you already have a patio umbrella, it would be easy to build the adapter to mount it to a 2″ receiver. You would just need to weld a 6″ piece of 1.5″ID pipe to a 32″ length of 2″ square steel tube.
Overall, I really liked the tailbrella. It’s pretty easy to set up and all the parts stay together in the bag. It’s nice that you don’t need weights, need to stake anything down, and there’s nothing to trip over. The 9′ umbrella gives a pretty large area of shade.
