DIY 48V Lithium Battery - Step by Step Build

I build a lithium battery using 7 Nissan Leaf cell modules, some threaded rod, and an Ikea cutting board!

VOLTAGE:
Is this pack really 48 Volts? No. We often use a "shorthand" when referring to the voltage of a battery system. 12/24/48V were numbers originally based on lead-acid batteries. Lithium cells run at a different voltage. More properly, we often refer to how many cells are in series (s) and how many are in parallel (p).
This battery would be a 14s2p arrangement. (Remember, there’s 2 in series, 2 in parallel inside each module!)
Maximum theoretical charged voltage on this battery would be 58.8V.

CAPACITY:
These first generation Leaf modules were originally rated at 500 watt-hours each. Seven of them times .500kWh is a theoretical 3.5kWh capacity. Of course, these are older batteries, and that doesn’t account for degradation. I’ll have to run a full draw-down discharge test to know the real-world capacity.

BMS:
A BMS is a Battery Management System.
Lithium cells are extremely sensitive to over-charging and over-discharging. A BMS monitors the voltage of individual cells to make sure the voltage of a single cell doesn’t go too high or too low. It will equalize the voltage between all the cells. Some BMSs can also remotely control the battery charger, or have other features.

I bought the BMS from Tech Direct: https://www.techdirectclub.com/battery-and-back-up-storage/new-category/
Here is a simple charger which would be appropriate for this battery: https://www.techdirectclub.com/battery-and-back-up-storage/new-category/
