Ford’s Ranger EV was manufactured from 1997 to 2002, during the "EV-1 Era". Vehicles of that time were sometimes known as compliance cars, to meet the requirements of the California Air Resources Board. This is often known as the CARB Mandate.
The Ford Ranger EV was surprisingly modern in that it used an AC motor and high voltage battery pack. It had regenerative brakes and electric air conditioning. Overall, it looked very much like the more typical gas Ford Ranger.
