This is the upper portion of my favorite motorcycle route ever – Million Dollar Highway riding up from Ridgway and Ouray to Red Mountain Pass.
The bike is a 1982 Yamaha xs400 and it has 2 up riders plus gear for a day (now she’s my wife!!). The moto runs pretty good at altitude on pure gasoline. This is the motorcycle we have retrofitted to Electric Drive, and will be running this test route with both versions of the machine in the Spring of 2023.
This video is from about 2008 but I might need to update that… recorded with a HDV Sony cam, suction mounted to the tank. There was no stabilization at the time, and yeah that windscreen really makes for hideous video. But man, what a ride. And it’s great to see how much, or how little, it has changed in the 15 years since this was recorded.
