Taiwan KOM Challenge – 2021: Wu Chih-Hao’s unforgiving climb | DT Swiss

The KOM Taiwan is known as one of the toughest challenges in the world, climbing from sea level over a distance of 105km to an altitude of over 3000m.
Conquered by many world-class athletes over the years, with rapidly changing conditions the experience can be completely different year to year.
During the climb there may be sunshine, heavy rain, fog and temperatures varying by more than 25 degrees Celsius.
For the 2021 challenge, DT Swiss accompanied Wu Chih-Hao from Team Bryton Icefield on his journey climbing to the Wuling summit.
The challenge for the team this year was extra tough as the event date fell between the national games and the national championships.
Being in the middle of competitions did not leave room for any specific preparation for the KOM Challenge. Despite already being quite exhausted, the team did not want to miss out on the race.
As the team climber, Wu Chih-Hao’s task was to pull the team up the mountain, while being strategic about when to attack, break out and stay within the peloton.
Having suffered an injury in a previous race and being not fully recovered, the battle to get to the podium was even more challenging. DT Swiss followed Wu Chih-Hao all the way through the Taroko gorge and up to document his journey!
