Top 6 E-Bike Battery Quick Tips

The battery is the heart of your e-bike and needs some basic care and attention to keep it healthy for the long haul. Here are 6 quick tips to learn what your e-bike’s battery is telling you and how to keep it in tip top shape for miles and miles!

1. How long does it take to charge from 0% to 100%?
It depends on the charger. The most common 4.0Ah takes about 4.5 hours and the Compact Charger takes about 6.5 hours.

2. How can I tell that it’s charging?
After you plug it in using the handy rule of thumb (the thumb-sized groove is the top of the port), the battery indicator lights will come on to tell you the charge level. When it’s fully charged, they will turn off and you can unplug it knowing you’re at 100%.

3. How long will the battery last?
The longevity (aka lifespan) of a battery is 5 to 7 years.
The range refers to how far you can ride on one charge and that varies a LOT based on the battery, rider, and conditions. Check out Bosch’s handy range calculator to get an estimate https://www.bosch-ebike.com/us/service/range-calculator

4. What if I’m running low on juice while I’m out and about?
Pack your charger with you so you can remove your battery and plug it in while you work or grab a coffee.

5. What are the ideal battery storage conditions?
To extend the life of your battery, you should keep it between 40 and 90 degrees. If temps dip below or above that range, it’s best to remove the battery and store it inside.

6. How should I transport it?
We recommend removing the battery from the e-bike for long travel days on a vehicle rack. The bike will be lighter to load up and the battery will be safe and sound riding shotgun (seatbelt optional). Use a travel plug to keep out the road grime and be sure your rack is e-bike rated and equipped to handle the weight of your precious cargo!
