My 2013 Tesla Model S had an error that kept it from driving, so it’s time to drop the battery pack, open it up, and fix it!

This was was showing BMS_w107_SW_Cell_Voltage_Sensor and BMS_f107_SW_Cell_Voltage_Sensor errors. This meant the car WOULD NOT DRIVE!

I was able to use Tesla’s Toolbox service software to clear the error, and drive the car again, but it came back two weeks later! I reset it, and it came back a second time! So, now I’m going to fix the problem instead of just the symptom.

After some web searching and internet forums, it appears that this error is related to the Battery Monitoring Boards on each of the 16 modules in the battery. Potentially, a BMS wire could be loose or a capacitor on the board might be corroded.

The battery needs to be opened to inspect each of the battery modules. In this video, I drain the coolant, remove the fuse, and start opening the pack.
