Hysteresis is a story of a woodland creature who like a firefly, has evolved to display this human life force on the outside of its radiant, plume covered body, as LIGHT. Tied directly to the intensity of this life force; the light emanating from this creature can be completely dark in stillness to a warm glow as the creature dances, to an intense blasting light coming out of its entire body when it is provoked or inspired.
To reinforce the idea that we ALL are light energy, seven ethnically and gender diverse dancers will each be commissioned to choreograph a unique dance. Each dance will be shot to the same soundtrack, in the same huge costume, to the same storyboard and then cut-up and edited together into the final film. The artistic intension is to create a question in the audience, where the answer to why Hysteresis keeps changing into different human forms, must be, it’s not about the dancers, it’s about the costume and of course, the animation of light as a metaphor for the human spirit itself.
