Ride from Oberwesel (DE) to Hook of Holland (NL).
The final day of our mainland Europe journey, was from Oberwesel on the western bank of the Rhine back to our ferry at Hook of Holland for the overnight return to Harwich.
From our overnight stop at Gasthaus Weingut Stahl, we headed back down to the Rhine river, then followed it northwards to Boppard, at which point we followed a cross country route to reach Buchholz, the surname of a fellow CWAM club member, so we felt duty bound to grab a photo of the road sign.
We then alternated sections between non-motorway and motorway stretches, heading north west, then west to near Aachen, nipping through the Netherlands above Maastricht, then into Belgium, travelling across and avoiding the worst of Antwerp’s traffic.
We were shortly thereafter back in the Netherlands heading across to the west coast, where we rode up past the spectacular Eastern Scheldt Storm Surge Barrier and past the many wind turbines, before we ultimately reached Rotterdam and then on to the Hook of Holland at just about the perfect time so as not to be too early or too late to board the ferry.
The day’s ride was part of a summer 2026 trip involving members of Coventry and Warwickshire Advanced Motorcyclists along with my brother and my old friend and touring buddy, Chris.
