Father Finnegan's Beatnik Fly

This is my arrangement and cover version of the original Beatnik Fly by Johnny and the Hurricanes (itself based on an old American song, Blue Tail Fly).

My arrangement incorporates a reprise of the opening section in the faster beat, which is the melody of the original Blue Tail Fly verse, and then the variation of the main melody which was used as the basis of the music Father Finnegan (the Dancing Priest) dances to on the Father Ted episode, Think Fast, Father Ted.

Contrary to common belief, the music Father Finnegan dances to is not Beatnik Fly by Johnny and the Hurricanes, but a derivation of it – presumably created by Neil Hannon.

Recorded in Cubase, using various virtual instruments, including a great plug-in version of the Ace Tone organ signature sound used by Paul Tesluk of Johnny and the Hurricanes.

Drums were performed live as ever on an electronic kit, triggering a sampled Gretsch drum kit through Superior Drummer 3.
