Testing Outboard Water Pump for EV Conversion #evconversion

I just got an old boat engine that I’d like to convert to electric. At this point, I’m just taking it apart to see how it works. I’m testing the water pump. It seems that since the water pump is already built in, that it may make sense to use it for water cooling of the electric motor.

I just test it out with a cordless drill. Looks like the pump is working fine. I would imagine that I could build a simple water-cooled heat sink and bolt that to the motor. The original water pump would then push water through it.

The outboard is a 6 HP Mercury twin.
