Why Cycling in Winter is Worth the Suffering

Why winter?

Maybe it’s the peaceful solitude that riding through the colder months creates. Time to think, to reset and to essentially meditate while the legs keep spinning.

For some, the cycling ‘offseason’ offers the perfect opportunity to reconnect with those ride communities you never get chance to spend time with, be that long lost friends, old clubs or family. After all, we’re all in the same push through the cold together.

Perhaps winter provides the perfect chance to discover new spaces for social connection, different environments, whether that be discovering communities in locations traveled to to escape winter, or now in the growing virtual world. All united by our love and joy of riding the bike, be that outside or on the trainer.

But for most of us it’s just that ride feeling, regardless of how or where we find it, we could never go an entire winter without our fix.

We all have our reasons for riding, and it’s during the harsh winter climate that we really discover them, at their bare bones – and ultimately, in those moments with the dark and the cold, that’s what makes us, us
