How To Use Extended Boost and Avoid Pedal Strikes on Technical eMTB Terrain, with Mark Weir

"Extended Boost" is a software feature that was introduced to the Bosch Performance Line CX drive unit (pedal-assist electric motor) in July of 2020. In this video, enduro strongman and eight-time winner of the Downieville Downhill, Mark Weir, explains how to make the most of extended boost by ratcheting the pedals through a technical trail section.

Extended Boost is a built-in characteristic of the Bosch Performance Line CX drive unit; it keeps the motor engaged, momentarily "pulling chain" after a rider eases pressure on pedals. This subtle trait provides a short burst or “kick,” assisting riders to clear obstacles and maintain momentum through varied terrain, especially when climbing.
